After twenty years working for Walt Disney Records and many other clients, Gary Powell rejoined the music faculty at the University of Texas Butler School of Music in September, 2012 as a Senior Lecturer. Gary had previously served as adjunct faculty at UT from 1985-1992 when he taught a music business survey class for Radio, Television and Film majors. Also, he directed an exciting performing vocal ensemble, “Ensemble 109”, where singers learned and practiced for the real world of singing in recording studios. Not only did Gary write all the vocal arrangements for this group, but he also developed many techniques for bridging the gap between the discipline of classical singing and popular vocal stylizations …..all taught within the framework of the professional studio vocal ensemble. Now, Gary is the faculty in charge of the Music Business and Music Production degree plans. Gary Powell presents vocal clinics and lectures across the United States on a wide variety of topics centered on the business of music.
